Mindfulness involves self-regulating your attention, increasing awareness of thoughts, feelings, observations, and stimuli (visual, auditory, olfactory). It involves observing these components as though you were a casual, nonjudgmental, third-party observer. It is closely associated with Eastern philsophy, and virtually all major religions incorporate aspects of this concept into their practice. In psychotherapy, it can be used to develop self-insight and manage stress and anxiety. For many people, activities such as meditation, guided or mental imagery, prayer, yoga, and tai chi can develop mindfulness.
